IVCanDO and Rural Development Initiatives (RDI) are calling on community members of all kinds —business owners, volunteers, parents, youth, elders, long-time residents, newcomers, and anyone with a stake in the future of the Illinois Valley—to apply for the 2025 IV Community Vision & Strategic Plan Steering Committee. We are seeking a diverse group of 8-12 community members and community stakeholders who are interested in helping create a vibrant and healthy Illinois Valley!
Steering committee members will use the Illinois Valley 2020 Community Vision and Strategic Plan document to help guide the planning process, implementation of planning activities, and final document creation alongside IVCanDO and RDI. If you are interested in serving on the Steering Committee, we’d love to learn more about you!

Steering Committee Roles & Responsibilities
Members of the 2025 IV Community Vision steering committee will:
Serve as project advisors during process planning and implementation;
Be ambassadors of information around the plan and planning process, as well as engage in collaborative dialogue with key stakeholders and organizations within the Illinois Valley;
Be available and actively participate in up to 5 steering committee meetings and several community planning events throughout the planning process, starting in December 2024 through December 2025, as follows:
Meeting #1: Project Kick-Off. Refine the draft planning process design; clarify who will do what; review and revise community Outreach & Communication plan; agree on project schedule; identify key stakeholders and organizations for project success; determine how communication & decisions will occur; design Community Meeting #1.
Meeting #2: Review & Analyze. Review data analysis/assessment results; discuss issues and opportunities; review draft community values and vision themes; design Community Meeting #2.
Meeting #3: Review Community Meeting #2. Review results of Community Meeting #2; refine Vision Statement; review action themes to date; design Community Meeting #3.
Meeting #4: Review Community Meeting #3. Review results of Community Meeting #3; confirm preliminary Community Vision Statement and Action Areas
Additional meeting may occur to present the completed document to the public.
Other Information:
Steering committee members will be invited to participate based on their application responses to ensure a well-rounded, diverse, and well equipped group;
A total stipend of up to $2000, paid at to-be-determined project milestones, meetings attended, and/or hours contributed, will be available to steering committee members as compensation for their participation;
Steering committee members will be expected to participate in several different ways: actively during steering committee meetings, at outreach and community planning events, communication with other steering committee members, IVCanDO staff, and RDI staff, adhering to agreed upon project timeline, and being accountable in committing to participate through the entire process;
Regarding accommodations: If you require certain accommodations to participate in the process, please let us know! Needing accommodations will not disqualify you from being considered from the committee;
If you are interested in participating, but the steering committee doesn’t seem like a good fit for you, don’t worry! There will be a variety of other ways to help the planning process. Be sure to sign up for the IVCanDO newsletter to stay updated about upcoming opportunities!

A note on demographics questions: Not answering the OPTIONAL demographics questions will not disqualify you from participation. They are being asked to ensure that we have a well-rounded group that accurately represents the diverse people, viewpoints, cultures, and activities in our community. The answers to these questions will not be shared beyond Steering Committee selection staff of IVCanDO and RDI.
