Project Description

RiverStars Embrace

If you live in the Illinois Valley - you can be a RiverStar!

RiverStars Performing Arts cultivates youth voice and power using dance and theatre to galvanize community action.

RiverStars Performing Arts offers free dance and theatre classes to Illinois Valley residents of Josephine County ages 5-18, public, home or private schooled.  Students cultivate performance skills while building self-esteem, discipline, focus, risk taking and collaboration skills. Young artists write or choreograph original content for two annual productions, performed for our community in December and April, about issues relevant to our rural community.  In the Spring, students perform flash mobs at the Cave Junction Farmer’s Market.

RiverStars has 4 distinct programs to serve multiple ages and abilities.  TwinkleStars is offered for our youngest participants in 1st and 2nd grade.  We have 2 classes for 3rd and 4th graders, who perform as the EverStars. Our beginning 5-8th graders take class and perform with the ArtNovas, and our intermediate and advanced youth of any age perform with our ArtStars.  Students generally must participate with RiverStars a minimum of 2 years before auditioning for the ArtStars, and be competent in both dance and theatre. Special field trips, performances and workshops are offered periodically throughout the year.
