RiverStars Performing Arts
Call RiverStars (541) 649-2333
Provides dance, theatre classes and performance opportunities to Illinois Valley youth. See them shine in original productions and flash mobs throughout the year. In 2013, IVCDO partnered with DanceFarm and Three Rivers School District to create RiverStars Performing Arts. They wanted to focus on building the soil from which an art-i-cultural community would thrive. To that end, they built a comprehensive arts education program for all valley youth to experience high quality performing arts programming.
A 5-year, $270,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation’s Studio to School program was secured to found RiverStars. Additional funds have been awarded from the Collins Foundation, the State of Oregon, Oregon Humanities, the Ford Family Foundation and other programs of the Oregon Community Foundation. Since then, RiverStars has become a cornerstone of our community. The program’s 12 hours of weekly classes are full, serving 50+ home and public schooled youth.
They produce two original, often student penned theatre works annually to sold out audiences. Recently they were designated a model program by Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) and awarded the three year K-12 Out of School grant for excellence in after school programming. RiverStars youth are leaders in the community. Performances are anticipated events bringing creative and expressive energy to local social justice issues.
