Illinois River Forks State ParkIVCDO led the community effort to re-open and renovate Forks State Park. Disc Golf Course

The Forks Disc Golf Course is situated on a floodplain between two forks of the Illinois River. This area is mostly flat with lots of open space. There isn’t a lot of rough to deal with. The course will become much more challenging when the hundred or so small trees which have been planted here start to mature.

The amenities are brand spanking new and very cool. At the beginning of the course, there is a really nice, creative kiosk with course map and sponsors. The tee pads are large, trapezoid shaped and concrete. The tee signs are metal models covered with fiberglass and the baskets are Discatchers with the red numbers on top. There are plastic laundry baskets at each hole used for garbage cans.

There is camping near by and this course is very cart friendly.

The Westside Trail

The Westside Trail system is a network of loop trails, accessed by Westside Road and includes eight miles of trails that go through a mixed forest of conifers and oak woodlands to vista points overlooking Illinois Valley and the Illinois River. The trail is designed for horse travel but is also an excellent place for hikers to enjoy. Dogwood trees are common along parts of the trail network making this a place to visit in the spring when these trees are in bloom and fall (late October) when the leaves turn a bright pink.
