The Illinois Valley Community Development Organization (IVCanDO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to collaborative programs and inclusive partnerships. Our mission is to champion sustainable development that fosters vibrant economic, social, and cultural vitality. For more than 30 years, we’ve worked at the heart of rural southwest Oregon—listening, building, and growing alongside the community through seven diverse program areas.

About This Position

IVCanDO believes that strong communities are built through strong relationships. We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and outgoing Community Engagement Director to strengthen connections with community members, businesses, nonprofits, volunteers, and partners while sharing the stories and impact of IVCanDO’s work.

This position blends community engagement with strategic communications. The Community Engagement Director serves as a visible ambassador for the organization, helping people discover opportunities to get involved while ensuring our communications remain accurate, timely, and engaging.

This is an in-person position based in Cave Junction. Work is performed both in the IVCanDO office and throughout the Illinois Valley. This is not a remote position.

Position Summary

The Community Engagement Director is responsible for strengthening community relationships, coordinating outreach efforts, maintaining IVCanDO’s communications platforms, and supporting community events that advance the organization’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Partnership Development – 40%

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, schools, volunteers, donors, and community members.
  • Represent IVCanDO at community meetings, networking events, and local gatherings.
  • Conduct one-on-one outreach to identify opportunities for collaboration and strengthen community partnerships.
  • Recruit and engage volunteers to support organizational programs and events.

Communications & Marketing – 30%

  • Maintain and update the IVCanDO website with accurate and timely information.
  • Manage the organization’s social media platforms with consistent, engaging content.
  • Create newsletters, flyers, press releases, and promotional materials in partnership with other IVCanDO Team members..
  • Capture stories, photographs, and testimonials that highlight community impact.
  • Ensure communications meet organizational quality standards and funding partner requirements.

Events & Outreach – 20%

  • Assist in planning, promoting, and coordinating community events, workshops, volunteer activities, and public celebrations.
  • Support event logistics, volunteer coordination, and follow-up communications.
  • Represent IVCanDO at outreach events and information booths.

Administrative Support – 10%

  • Maintain communication calendars and event schedules.
  • Assist with stakeholder contact databases and outreach tracking.
  • Support grant communications, reporting, and other communications-related administrative tasks.

Other Duties

Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the overall success of the organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with diverse community members.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience using websites, social media platforms, and standard office software.
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Pass background check and motor vehicle record check.

Preferred

  • Experience in nonprofit organizations, community engagement, communications, or marketing.
  • Photography, graphic design, and/or video editing experience.
  • Experience planning community events or volunteer activities.
  • Knowledge of rural community development and community organizing.
  • Experience with CRM systems, email marketing platforms, or website management.
